Kitacon 2010.
Sunday, 28 March 2010

This weekend has been absolutely amazing, and really notsome at some points. I can only think to do this in day order, so here you go.

Friday

I met Cam at the train station at half past ten in the morning, and after ticket buying, and an uncomfortable journey next to the on-board toilet to Birmingham, where we ran into Cam's friends Amy, Tom and Rich. Then we got on the train to Northampton with those guys.

It was a rather uneventful train ride where I looked out of the window, because when I'm in a new place, I seem to act like a kid with ADD. Once we were off the train, and leaving the station, we saw Drew and Rach (although at first, Drew didn't recognise who Cam was, which lead to an outraged Cam, and a very apologetic Drew).

We walked to the Ibis, me mostly lagging behind with Drew, talking about Basquash!, and how it's a cock block of an anime. And he mentioned that he had Beyblade with him, and this eventually lead to a debate about how an anime about Yoyos would be better than Beyblade, but me and Drew both disagreed heavily.

Then it was off to the Park Inn to register and get my first ever Con-Badge! And Con-pack, with a Con-Bag and Con-Book. It was a bag full of Con-goodies and Pocky. This weekend made me realise, I really don't like Pocky all that much. Mikado, ftw!

When we got there, there wasn't all that much to do for a while, so we scrounged around the main area for a while, before me, Drew and Rach went into Northampton for a while to do some shopping. I bought the best light-up stick thing, ever. And we ended up trying to find Drew a towel, which took us to many places. Including the Disney store, and I'm still disappointed that he didn't buy a Finding Nemo towel.

We met up with Cam and Alex later, and did some more hanging around before going to the Opening Ceremony, which was hilarious, and I wish I could relive that hour. As soon as the Opening Ceremony Video is put up on Youtube or something, I'll embed it here, because it was so hilarious. I will say one thing:

"Yo Kitacon, I'm really happy for you, and Imma let you finish, but Alcon was the best convention of all time."
Of course this was very sarcastic, everyone either gasped, laughed or both, but the more hilarious thing was that Michael Towers - Alcon's chairman - was in the room at the time. We had a theory that he went and drowned himself in a pool of his own tears.

Then there was another gap of about two hours, where we left and went back the the Ibis and hung out in Emma's room. I don't really know Emma, but Alex gave me some of his Apple Sourz, so by that time, I was happy, and I really didn't care where I was.

We went back to the Park Inn to see HITT for a while, which was just this very pretty man dancing to a backing track of his music. He was okay, but his over sized ego wouldn't fit on the stage. Regardless, he was a decent musician, so I'll link him here. I think me, Alex and Alex were just stood at the back of the room, taking the piss out of his killer dance moves, ahaha. There are two Alex's, by the way, I'm not losing my mind. Al can be the boy Alex, and Alex can be the girl (I've met four Alex's since I've started Uni.).

After we left HITT, because we got a little bored, we went to the Kareoke for a few songs, heard Ris sing this song called Easy Breezy (I think) but I ended up leaving because there were a lot of people sitting in this tiny room, it smelt funny, and it was warm. Then there was the Rock Party, which for the most part was incredibly, dull. The highlight was watching Warren, who was 'cosplaying' Slash. So I made my excuses, and had a power-nap back at the hotel. I managed to have an amazing half an hour of z's.

After I realised what time it was, I was out of bed, dressed, and ready to roll. It was 12:50am, and it was fourty minutes until the Late Night Panel, which was strictly 18+, with Chris Patton, and Leah Clarke. So I met up with Cam and everyone else (I guess I should say, the 'crew' consisted of me, Cam, Drew, Rach, Warren, Al, Alex and Ris).

The late night panel is just Chris and Leah insulting each other, and getting too far into their personal lives. I could now tell you, in great depth about some of his less enjoyable sexual experiences. I love that man. I hope clips of that will also be uploaded to Youtube.

After that, we went to get Pizza, and sat around in the kebab house eating that. Then it was back to the hotel and we all went straight to bed because it was the most exhausting day of my entire life, and everyone else was exactly the same.

I'd also like to point out that me and Cam also went for a meal at Weatherspoons and it was goooood. But I don't know when this happened, so I won't try and tell you xD

Saturday

I was awake at eight, but kept waking up, and drifting off to sleep again until I heard knocking at the door. This is where I managed to stumble out of bed without knowing it, and Rach was there. She said that we needed to go to The Breakfast Club, because there was food there, and I was so there, seeing as I was starving.

Cam finished his shower, got dressed, and we went off. Of course, me and Rach were far too cool for getting dressed, so we went off in our pyjamas. They did say, turn up in your pyjamas - we were just following dress code. There was no free food, so we watched an episode of Charlton and the Wheelies, then went to the dealers room. I restrained myself so well. I only bought Hero Tales 2 and Ultimo 1. I was in a room full of manga that I wanted, and I only bought one, so I'm some kind of fucking hero xD

After me and Rach went and got changed into our cosplays, and then headed back to the convention. I only got recognised as Hanyuu once, but I did get recognised by a very friendly cosplay photographer. It was my Ohno moment. Anyway, after that, myself and Rach wondered around, and she was dragged off by a bunch of Naruto cosplayers, so I went to find Video Room 3, where Tom and Rich were holding the Hello Kitty panel.

I went into the panel feeling very indifferent about the Kitty, but now, I will say with Pride I EMBRACE THE KITTY. They had kitty prizes for answering questions about the kitty, and I managed to bag myself a Hello Kitty sleep mask by answering the question "Which celebrity got married at Sanrio Puroland?" and my hours of watching Japanorama paid off, because I knew it was Johnathan Ross.

After this, I was completely sick of my cosplay because it's apparently, really poorly made. So I went back, and changed into my normal people clothes. It was good. Afterwards, me and Cam went to hang out in Ris' room, because her panel needed a slideshow, and she'd enlisted Cam. I tagged along because I didn't have anything else to do really. We laughed at really badly subtitled anime, lol'd at Omegle chats and didn't really do a power point. This lasted for a while, then me and Cam skipped out into town to get some supplies from Primark, and the local off-licence.

After we got back, a bit of shit happened, that I really do not feel like talking about here, because this is supposed to be a positive blog. Plus, I'd like to try and forget it, but if it becomes important in a couple of days, I'll divulge. Hopefully it won't though.

After cheering myself up, me and Cam went to meet everyone at the Harajuku Nights Party. I decided that I really needed to get drunk, so me and Drew hung around the bar, and I had some cool drinks. Many WKD's, Sambuca shots, and KitaMix, which was a Con-cocktail. I wanted to try the "Fully Mental Alchemist" drink, but I chose to avoid the Tabasco sauce. It was enough to get me drunk, which meant I had a lot, a lot, a lot of fun at the party. The songs I remember were 1985 by Bowling for Soup, I'm On A Boat by Lonely Island, Basketcase by Green Day, there was a Pendulum song, and a remix of the Gurren Lagann opening which I enjoyed far too much. By this point, it was Al's birthday, and that meant he was all over the fucking place.

The party finished when I was bliind drunk, and it was 1am. The last song was Don't Stop Believing by Journey. Then I went outside and played on DDR with Ris. Then I went back to the hotel to get my bag, and Drew escorted me because everyone was convinced that I'd stumble into traffic.

While we were gone, everyone else had disappeared to the Hentai Power Hour, so me and Drew did some bonding, and we played pool. And also had this guy trying to convince Drew to sleep with me, but Drew resisted, because

a) I'm Cam's girlfriend and
b) Drew is very much gay.

But I had a good time with him. I love Drew, he's adorable.

After Hentai Power hour, we went to the Kebab House, got some more Pizza, and I stole a lot of Drew's curly fries, and we hung out in Alex and Warren's room until about 5. This was when we decided to leave, and I got the chance to sleep off the alcohol.

Sunday

I was up at 9, because the voice actor panel was scheduled for 10, so I get there, to find out it had been pushed back to one in the afternoon, so I went back to the hotel room, informed Cam who had decided to skip out on it because he was too exhausted, and then packed, because check out was less than two hours away, and I hadn't packed, like, at all.

Then I still found the time to go back to sleep for 45 minutes.

After checkout, me and Cam hung out in the dealers room, and I made my most expensive purchase of the Con - A really, really nice Square Enix Edward Elric figure, which cost me £27, but was so worth it because it's wonderful, and easily one of the nicer figures that I own.

Then it was FINALLY time for the voice actor panel, which was fantastic, and I really enjoyed it. Cam asked a couple of questions about writing to Leah, and asked about Chris' first day as a voice actor, which lead to him saying he played Soldier B, but not Soldier A, and I laughed, because he can on that song with Vic Mignogna. He sang the Panda song. I love the Panda song.

Once the panel finished, we ran up to try and meet him, and he was the nicest guy, ever. He asked me what my name was, and signed Paul's Full Metal Panic Artbook, and made a video for Cam in the voice of the main character from Airgear. He just had his photo taken with me, but he was so friendly. I waved at Leah too, and she waved back!

Me with Chris Patton

And then it was a quick dash around to say our goodbyes to everyone, pick up our stuff, and then get on a coach to Rugby. And that's it really. We came home, and I've been trying to recover ever since.

I'm so sure I didn't leave out anything important, but if I did, I can edit. And I will leave you with this beautiful song.

Roll on Amecon 2010!

Thursday, 25 March 2010

Okay, so I'm gonna blog about a few things before I go to bed and watch some Heroes until I fall asleep.

1 - MÄR.
This is fast becoming one of my favourite anime series, like, ever. Okay, admittedly it's never going to beat Fullmetal Alchemist or Gurren Lagann or even Higurashi, but it will come in at a close 4th. I love Ginta, I love the story, and I'm loving the last couple of episodes. Today, it'll be three years since it finished airing in Japan, but the last episode still hasn't been subbed yet. It's actually killing me. I think I'm on Team Ginta, rather than Team Alviss. These teams aren't real, I just made them up, but yes, I do prefer Ginta.

Please appreciate this picture, I managed to stumble upon a rather large spoiler while trying to find it T_T

2 - Creeper.
I was having this dream where someone was banging on a door, and it was a freakin' awful sound, but little did I realise, Tyrone's maintenance man was trying to wake me up so that he could check my radiator because everyone's has broken.

Of course, 3 hours sleep meant that I wasn't waking up for his early morning call. I guess anyone who lives in halls will know that maintenance men have keys for every door, including mine.

I only managed to wake up when he was stood at the bottom of my bed, looking at me in horror. It's probably a 'TMI' situation, but it gets warm in my room when I go to sleep, so I only sleep in my bra and pyjama shorts. Not really under the covers.

Worst morning ever.

3 - Heroes
My love for season one of Heroes has returned with a burning passion.

Anyway, it's Kitacon this weekend. I'm starting to kinda look forward to it, but I'm more looking forward to Monday for the Arlene Ball. I miss my boys, and I get to see Laura and Adam too, so I can't wait :D

I'll update again on Sunday when Kitacon is over, and my Hanyuu cosplay is put away.

Woah, hai thur.
Saturday, 20 March 2010

I actually had a little bit of a mental relapse and forgot I had a blog until earlier today. I don't like this. I'm going to try to update once a week because I enjoy blogging, and it's sad that I've gone from blogging daily, to blogging every so often when I'm feeling down.

So, anyway, I'm going to update about the past week or so.

I have this friend at Tyrone called Tod, who I was kind of friends with since September. I'd know him well enough to say hello to, and ask how he was, but it never really went any further than that until about a month ago, when I spent a couple of nights hanging out with him in his kitchen. I really do like Tod, because he's been so lovely to me, and I feel genuinely bad that I only ever see him once in a while.

But last Sunday, I ran into him, and he decided to make me some food because Asda had shut, and I was completely foodless. He makes noodles that taste like pasta. Anyway. I realised, that he is a really good friend to me. When I was having a bit of a moment, saying that I don't have anyone who I can really rely on anymore because all my friends are so far away, and Cam can seem quite distant at times, he said I shouldn't worry because I can always go to him if some thing is really bothering me. Which was like a weight from my shoulders because I know I can actually talk to someone face to face, instead of bottling things up, like I have been doing for quite a while.

I might be moving in with him and his friend Paul next year. This makes me happy because I'll feel more comfortable living here. Although, next year is everyone's last year, apart from me and Megan.

I guess Megan would be another thing to talk about. She's Chris' girlfriend, and although she annoys me a lot when she tries to make out that she's better than everyone at everything, and when she says that she wouldn't mind marrying my boyfriend, she's an alright friend. So far, I only really have two girls who I consider my friends, but she just doesn't come close to how I value Laura.

But anyway, we went to see Alice in Wonderland (I typed 'Alice In Wolverhampton' then, olol), and it was alright. I've seen better films, but I have seen worse.

Anyway, I'm gonna see if I can ninja my quorn burgers back from downstairs.

But don't worry, blog. I promise not to forget you again

I got my photos from Doubletake! I'm very excited about them. I've never ever owned the copyright to some really professional photos. I've also never had to pay £399 for them >>;

Here's one of the photos that I didn't put on Facebook:

Nothing else really exciting has been going off. I got a letter from my Grandma this morning with £20 inside that I wasn't expecting, and they said to enjoy it, so I bought myself a copy of Higurashi 6 and Guilty Gear Core. That's about £12 spent. The other £8 will go on crisps, coke, and maybe some milk, because I hate scrounging from the communal milk that Niel buys.

I spent an hour or so last night thinking about the fact that I have less than three months left in Wolverhampton and this thought makes me feel pretty sad. I know that over summer, I'm barely going to see Cam and my uni friends. In fact, I think the only time I'll see Lee and Paul will be at Amecon, if they go. I don't think I'll see Chris at all.

I'm actually not looking forward to the end of the year. Although I get to run for chair for the anime club, it's Chris' last year here. Once we get to May, and we go off to enjoy our summers or whatever, I won't see Chris again for a long while. I know I'm not going to want to lose touch with him, because he's one of my best friends here and he really helped me out when I was swooning over Cam, thinking that I was just dreaming and we'd never happen.

Luckily, Lee and Paul have another 2 years left here, I have another 3 because I'm changing course, and Cam has another 1 before he moves to Japan for a year. So I'm really gonna make the most of this next year while Cam's still here and Lee and Paul are around.

I've decided that I'm gonna use this blog more. Not daily, but pretty often.

Edit: Also, omg, I finished Gurren Lagann. Finally! I cried. I cried so hard.

March.
Thursday, 4 March 2010

There's a lot of exciting stuff going off this month which I'm actually terribly excited/nervous about.

Tomorrow I'm going home and I really cannot wait to sleep in my own bed and be around my friends again and not be woken up by fire alarms on Sunday morning. So I'm super excited about seeing Claky, and Simon, and Derek, my mum, and hopefully my sisters, Ethan and Jaden too.

I also have Kitacon, which is actually my first proper anime convention, which I'm so nervous about. This is from the 26th to the 28th - the 28th being mine and Cam's 6 month anniversary - and will probably wipe out my wallet, and scrape out my brains from the amount of drinking that will happen. Yay for having the most awkward cosplay, ever.

And to top it off, I have Madina Lake in Birmingham with Laura before the month's out. I'm hoping that I can persuade Tod to come along too, because he's always telling me how much he wants to see them live, so he should just, y'know, come as far as I'm concerned.

I also had a professional photo shoot yesterday with my friend Megan and it was so much fun. I'll be getting 6 of those at the end of the month, so that's another thing to look forward to. I'll be paying that off for the next two years though ^_^'
